The "godfather" figure will be sitting in a living room in a tall chair. I will use my grandparents house in Wimbledon for this. This location will provide a closed frame for the long slow zooming shot that will be filmed there. The decor in the room could easily be 1940s style so not many changes will need to be made in order to fit the time stamp of the film. I feel that the miss-en-scene of this location will be accurate to reflect the narrative and will suit this part of the opening extremely well.
STREET:
I will film my street shots in Helmsley, Yorkshire near to the woods shots. Helmsley will be perfect for my street shot because there are a lot of small cobbled alleyways with old brick buildings which will fit my time frame and suit the scene very well. I will use the small alleyways to create a look of the walls closing in on the characters to reflect how the "godfather figure" is closing in on them in a very claustrophobic way. I would like to find a street that has some kind of light source such as a lamppost or sign so that I can use little extra lighting to fit with the low key lighting that I am aiming for to create a lot of contrast and shadow.
WOODS:
The murder will take place in the woods, either Dulwich woods which are very local or most likely the woods in Bransdale, Yorkshire. These woods are pine woods and consist of extremely tall, looming trees that will make a perfect location for the murder. The woods will also be a good location for the murder because of the lack of light through the trees and the shadows that the trees and branches will cast across the characters especially when I use filler lights for high contrast. I would especially like to position the killer so that as he strangles the victim there are shadows of the leaves and branches cast across his face mostly disguising his face, this is because the killer is supposed to be one of many men who works for the "godfather" figure and therefore his identity is irrelevant, also the murder will be more mysterious if the audience can't see the killer's face.
